We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting two interesting but somewhat different talks on HatFest day.The morning talk will be a light-hearted look at some amusing events from our local milliners; the afternoon talk will encompass a most interesting foot-note to one of Britain’s most significant naval battles:
11am – 12 noon. A Talk with Sue ‘Darling’ Outhwaite, of local hat emporium T Snook.
‘Further Confessions from a Hat Shop’: more tall tales and improbable anecdotes from Bridport’s ‘largest little hat shop in the land’, recounted in her own inimitable style – and a succession of hats – by Sue of Snooks.
Saturday 7th September 2019, 11am-12noon, in the ballroom of the Bull Hotel, East Street.

2 – 3pm. A talk by Kathy Brown, a Director of The Trafalgar Way.
Bridport, 5th November 1805, was witness to a very important event in British history – and not just the 200-year anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot!
A rugged naval officer, sporting a weathered bicorne hat, came through town on his journey to deliver important documents to London and to drop off letters for a family living in nearby Burton Bradstock. His hat had come a very long way and witnessed quite epic adventures over several months.
But who was this officer, and why should he have stopped at the Bull Inn, of all places, on the way? And would Bridport’s townspeople have spotted, at the time, just how significant a visitor this was?
