Hats get serious: the Milliners and Hatters Open Competition

Ask most local folk what they think of when they hear ‘Bridport Hat Festival’ and it’s – of course – wearing hats, and fun. But Bridport Hat Festival has a serious side too: the Milliners and Hatters Open Competition.
Distinct from the merry public competitions happening outside in Bucky Doo – also on the main ‘Haturday’, September 2nd – the prestigious Milliners and Hatters Open is held in Bridport Town Hall and is judged by a panel of eminent industry professionals. The ‘M&H’ offers all UK and international (and yes, local too) milliners and hatters, whether professional, amateur or student, a top prize of £500, second of £250 and third of £125 (all sponsored by Bridport companies: T Snook hatters & outfitters, Porter Dodson and Aspect Counselling Services respectively), plus coverage in industry ‘bible’ The HAT Magazine.
So if you fancy yourself as rather more than a hobby hatmaker, the deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday, 2nd August 2017. Full details at www.bridporthatfest.org/competition
