Beans means money as Hays Travel raises £500 for HatFest charities

Staff at Hays Travel in Bridport raised an amazing £500 for the Bridport Hat Festival charities by sitting two of their number in a paddling pool filled with baked beans for much of ‘Haturday’, September 2nd. Festival-goers inured to unusual sights during the annual hat madness still paused at the prospect of Abigail Osgood and Josie Arnold spending from 10.30am-3pm, on what was a very warm day, up to their waists in orange goo outside the Hays branch in East Street. 100 tins of beans were donated by the local branch of Morrisons, a further 80 came from Princess Cruises and another 120 were funded by private donations and the enthusiastic staff of Hays themselves. Branch manager Marjorie Dench said it took two hours using an electric can opener to fill the tub. Besides what was collected during the baked bean bath, yet more money was raised by a raffle boasting an array of enticing prizes given by Hays’ tour operators. Bridport Hat Festival raises money for head-related charities, regularly supporting Brain Tumour Research and BIRT, the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust: the £500 donation from Hays Travel will go directly to the charities.
